From Jökulsárlón we headed east to Höfn and then the long drive north. The weather closed in and to cut the journey distance we decided to go on route 939 - cross country - in fact cross mountain would be more realistic.
This is the gravel road that took us over the pass, as you can see the cloud base was really low and as we climbed visibility was reduced to 10 metres in places. Ice and packed snow was either side of the road.
Later we were to find out that route 939 is one of the most dangerous routes in Iceland
